Oakleigh Period House Museum
Under the majestic oaks and the ivy covered grounds sits one of Mobile’s prized treasures, Oakleigh Period House Museum and Historic Complex.
Built around 1833 is Oakleigh Period
House, a Greek Revival-style home.
The three and half beautifully landscaped acres consist of Oakleigh, the city’ s official antebellum period house museum; the Cox-Deasy House; and the Mardi Gras Cottage Museum.
Oakleigh is adorned with period furnishings, paintings, silver, and decorative arts. The Cox-Deasy House Museum, is a prime example of a raised Creole cottage, typical of modest middle-class city dwellers along the Gulf Coast. New to the Oakleigh complex is the Mardi Gras Cottage Museum, designed to give visitors a taste of Mardi Gras in Mobile the museum features costumes of past kings/queens and other artifacts from the 19th century to the present.
