Monterey County: Getting Married in Paradise

Monterey County is bursting with many wonderful and unique places for couples to begin their new lives together. Formal religious ceremonies can be held at the historic Carmel Mission, St. Mary's by the Sea in Pacific Grove, Pebble Beach's Church in the Forest, or one of hundreds of other church settings in the area. Other couples may choose the elegance of the La Playa Hotel in Carmel, The Monterey Plaza Hotel, or the Pebble Beach Resorts as their setting of choice, reciting their vows while overlooking Carmel Bay on the 18th Hole at Pebble Beach. Still others may prefer the simplicity of an outdoor ceremony with a few friends and family at an outdoor setting like Holman Ranch in Carmel Valley, or Lover's Point in Pacific Grove or on one of the area's many beaches.

Choosing the right location for the nuptials is one of the most important decisions a future bride will make with regards to her wedding. The time of year and the typical weather conditions will play a big part in this decision, particularly if she desires an outdoor setting. In addition, most local churches, large hotels, and some outdoor venues offer wedding planners on staff who can help brides plan their perfect day, from her walk down the aisle right through to the last dance.

Because Monterey County is such a desirable place to get married, it is advisable for the bride and groom to book their ceremony and reception venues as soon as possible. Many places are booked up to a year in advance, so last minute planners will be disappointed. The same rules apply to the wedding's traditional "support staff" the caterers, cake bakers, florists, photographers, and bands or DJ services. Although there are many highly reputable professionals in Monterey County to choose from, many are booked far in advance.

Once the details of the wedding are complete, it's time to consider the rest and relaxation that follows that monumental walk down the aisle—the honeymoon! Monterey County is full of secluded romantic getaways for the happy couple to spend their first weeks as newly marrieds together.
