Famous from the Beach Boy’s hit song “ Surfin’ USA, “ Swami”s Beach in Encinitas is one of San Diego’s prime surf spots. In January 2002, Encinitas was named
“One of the Top 10 Surf Towns in the United States “ by Surfer Magazine.
Along with “huarachi sandals and bushy , bushy blonde hairdos..., “Swami”s
Beach offers big and challenging waves for experienced surfers.
Surfing is a popular pastime for the young and old throughout San Diego County.
Popular surf spots include Bird Rock in La Jolla, Stone Steps Beach, Torrey Pines
Beach, north La Jolla Shores Brach, Mission Beach, Pacific Beach, Ocean Beach,
Imperial Beach and Sunset Cliffs. Guests who want to learn to surf can contact the San Diego Surfing Academy, which offers surfing lessons and surf camp year- round for the entire family.

Scuba diving and snorkeling are popular off San Diego’s shores.
La Jolla Cove offers
some of the clearest waters on the California coast, as well as miles of protected underwater preserves to explore.
One of San Diego’s most popular diving treasures is the HCMS Yukon, a 366 – foot
Canadian destroyer ship that is sunk two miles of San Diego’s Mossion Beach in
“Wreck Alley” This spectacular 600 – acre, world – class dive site and underwater recreational
area for divers also includes a sunken kelp cutter, Coast Guard cutter, barge and sportsfishing boat.
