On September 11, 1922 the Curran Theatre opened its doors to an expectant public.
The theater's highlights include pastoral murals, 400 light crystal chandeliers and an embroidered blue and purple velvet curtain.
The early years of the Curran witnessed a majority of light dramas and musical comedies in the 20's, evolving later into the more serious productions of the 30's. With the advent of the San Francisco Civic Light Opera and a more recent surge of major national and international productions, the theater has “sparkled with stars,” such as Katherine Hepburn, Vincent Price and Carole Channing.
