Golf in the Atlantic City area
From seaside links with breathtaking views to
parkland-style fairways nestled in the heart of the pinelands,
the Atlantic City area is home to many of the finest golf courses
on the East Coast.
First-class casino action, golf, spectacular nightlife and headliner entertainment,
golf, the beach, a world-famous Boardwalk, golf, sports teams, premiere restaurants,
you name it, the Atlantic City region has it. Did I mention golf?
Having originated from a game played on the eastern coast of Scotland in the Kingdom
of Fife during the 15th century,
the word "golf" is recorded as long ago as 1457.
Players would hit a pebble around a natural course
of sand dunes, rabbit runs and tracks using a stick or primitive club.
My, how times have changed!
Today golf has become a large part of the Southern New Jersey
landscape, and those who yearn for courses that offer challenging
and exciting fairways, exemplary hospitality and magnificent natural
beauty for beginners and professionals alike, need only travel minutes from the ocean in any direction.
The following are just a few of the premiere golf resorts in the Atlantic City region:Blue Heron Pines
Blue Heron Pines, located in Cologne, about a half
hour from Atlantic City, offers 36 holes of championship golf,
and has been a trend-setting golf club from the start in 1993.
>The 18-hole West Course, designed by renowned architect
Steven Kay and featuring over 6,800 yards of exquisite fairways,
manicured greens and blue water, sets the tone for up-scale,
daily-fee golf at the Jersey shore. Designed by Steven Smyers,
the East Course measures 7,221 yards from the back tees,
features a links-style design with wide fairways,
challenging bunkers and generous tees and greens.
Each course comes complete with its own clubhouse.
Blue Heron Pines is home to the prestigious Golf Digest Schools one of two locations in the Northeast.
Brigantine Golf Links
Just across the bay from Atlantic City, experience golf
as it is played on the legendary courses of the British
Isles at Brigantine Golf Links. Breathtaking ocean views
and a flat, nearly treeless terrain are reminiscent of
the original links courses of the British Isles.
Built in 1927, the 18-hole par 72 course,
measuring 6,570 yards from the back tees,
has been extensively renovated over the past 10 years,
returning it to its original grandeur and cementing a place
for Brigantine Golf Links among the numerous courses that have
helped the region earn the label "South Jersey's Golf Coast.
Shore Gate Golf Club
With the opening of Shore Gate Golf Club
in Spring 2002, the greater Atlantic City area welcomed
one of the most spectacular parkland courses to its already
powerful roster of southern New Jersey venues.
Located to the
south in Ocean View, Shore
Gate is stretched over 235 acres of completely secluded
woodlands and sand dunes. A Ron Fream design, the course
offers five sets of tee markers ranging from 5,200 to 7,200 yards.
