Golf in San Antonio

As the popularity of golf continues growing at a record pace, so too does San Antonio's reputation as one of Texas' most popular destinations to play the grand old game.
The city and neighboring towns are home to more than 40 public, private and military courses and practice facilities; with its lush and varied terrain and more than 300 days of sunshine annually, San Antonio is the perfect spot for year-round golfing.

The Westin La Cantera Resort features a new Arnold Palmer-designed golf course that opened in spring, 2001, and complements the La Cantera Golf Club which, which in September, 2002, will host the 80th edition of the Valero Texas Open at La Cantera.
Both courses are adjacent to the 500-room resort, which opened in May, 1999.
Another recent addition to the San Antonio golf scene is the Golf Clubs of Texas at Briggs Ranch, a Lee Trevino signature course southwest of downtown San Antonio, which opened in December, 1999.
San Antonio has six municipal and numerous public golf courses, including Cedar Creek Golf Course in northwest San Antonio.
Another municipal course, Brackenridge Golf Course, opened in 1916- making it the oldest public course in Texas. Other municipal courses are Mission del Lago, Olmos Basin, Riverside and Willow Springs. Pecan Valley Golf Course, minutes from downtown, hosted the 50th PGA Championship.
"The Quarry" is built on the striking 85-acre site of the former Alamo Cement Quarry in northeast San Antonio, next to the Quarry Market shopping center.

SilverHorn Golf Club, a public, daily-fee golf course, covers a 262-acre tract in north San Antonio. Four country clubs also offer courses that are available for tournaments for convention and other groups.
Among them is Sonterra Country Club, where golfers encounter challenging water hazards at nearly every hole-and can find respite in Sonterra's magnificent $7 million clubhouse. Besides the PGA Tour's Valero Texas Open at La Cantera, the SBC Championship, at the Oak Hills Country Club, brings some of the biggest names in the Senior PGA TOUR to town each year.
