Nudist resorts and beaches - Beach Clothing Optional?

Nudists in America?
May be it's more practiced than one may think. At many beaches and lakes people get rid of their clothes while knowing this part-time excursion into a paradise-style world could end in jail or at least with a hearty fine.
At many locations it is - even when not allowed - tolerated. Nudists mostly search secluded beach stretches and try not to bother any other people who disagree on the propagated freedom of the choice to wear clothes or not. 

But here we only want to talk about official areas and the ones where it's practiced since years without mentionable problems, places which are of course known by the officials and tolerated as long no complains arise.
Nudist's top locations are certainly Miami and San Diego's vicinity. Of course are those popular places quite crowed, especially on the weekends.
