Mail boxes (P.O. Boxes)
To rent a P.O. Box with USPS you need a residence in the city where you want to have the box. Proper identification is required. Normally you apply for a box when you move to a certain city and you get a box within some days. Sometimes it can also take a couple of weeks.
Private companies as the mentioned "Mailbox Etc." offer also mail boxes. This can be helpful prior to move to a new residence, so you got already a box there, even while you're looking for a home. Actual requirements for applications must be obtained from these private companies.
Delivery time
Postcards / Letters via Airmail with USPS to western Europe take about 1 week.
Express mail is faster and takes 3-5 days. Flat rates are available for certain express mail envelopes with a generous weight limit. Ask for Global Priority Mail (International), Priority Mail (National) and special express versions.
