Tombstone is a registered Historical Landmark since 1962 and world-famous for the gunfight at the OK Corral where Wyatt Earp, his brothers Virgil and Morgan and Doc Holliday, had their show-down with the Clanton and McLowrey Brothers.
Everybody knows probably that the Clanton Gang lost on October 26, 1881, and you can find Tom and Bill McLowrey's as well as Billie Clanton resting on the Boot Hill Cemetery.
In 1877 the first silver was discovered near Tombstone and and fortune seekers flocked to the area. No doubt about it, law wasn't really present at this time.
Tombstone is a nice little town with a population of 1.504 according to the Census 2000. Many motels, hotels and lodges invite to stay overnight.
From Tucson take the I-10 East and drive ca. 40 mi to Benson, then take exit 303 which leads you on the SR-80 which is also I-10 Business. Shortly after the town the SR-80 makes a turn south and after ca. 25 mi you reach Tombstone.
