It is said that Spanish explorers gave the place the name saucelitos because of the little willows (saucelitos)
which are growing along the shores. First settlers were sailors, whalers & shipbuilders in the early 1800's.
In the 1900's many gorgeous Victorian style mansions were built along the hills overlooking the bay.
During the 1950's many artists moved into sausalito and gave it todays reputation for being a No. 1 location for arts.
The city's vibrant arts scene is a visitors magnet but overall it's also the Mediterranean flair and the quaint streets and marina which makes this city so attractive.
Don't miss to visit the Bay Model Visitor Center which is a 1.5 acre working model of the bay.
Sausalito is located in Marine County which is famous for its biking and huking trails.
Five hotels and excellent restaurants welcome the visitors of Sausalito - that's why you should think about staying at least a night in this charming city.
How to get there: Either by car via the Golden Gate Bridge or by ferry from Fisherman’s Wharf or the Ferry Building on San Francisco’s Embarcadero.
