Carmel is nestled between the world famous Pebble Beach golf course to the north and the spectacular Big Sur coast to the SouthEnjoy a stroll down Carmel’s Ocean Avenue in search of a unique piece of art.

Explore the interactive exhibits at the Monterey Bay Aquarium in nearby Monterey; take a whale watching cruise, or a nice Sunday drive along the famed 17-Mile Drive in Pebble Beach.

The Bixby Bridge on Highway 1, south of Carmel was built by prisoners eager to earn "good time" off their prison sentences. It is one of the world's highest single-span bridges at 714 feet long by 260 feet high.Neon signs, billboards and hot dog stands are prohibited in the quaint village of Carmel, and a permit is required to wear high-heeled shoes.

Clint Eastwood, a local resident, is part owner of the Mission Ranch, a small hotel and restaurant property near downtown Carmel. He is also partial owner of The Pebble Beach Company, which controls four golf courses, three lodging properties, the 17-Mile Drive, and various land holdings throughout the Del Monte Forest. Recently he opened Tehema, an exclusive golf facility in Carmel Valley.

Mr. Eastwood supports various non-profit groups such as the Carmel Youth Center. Occasionally he serves as spokesperson for local charity events.

Doris Day has made Carmel Valley her home for many years, Brian Smith of the Beach Boys calls Big Sur home, and Joan Fontaine resides in the Carmel Highlands. Other celebrities that have lived in Monterey in the past include Merv Griffin, Alan Funt, Kim Novak, Betty White, John Travolta, Timothy Bottoms, Ted Turner, Sammy Hagar, Michael Tucker and Jill Eikenberry.
