Approx. 20 -30 min west of Boulder: it's a scenic drive from Boulder to Gold Hill and reveals fantastic views over the mountains.
Gold Hill was the first permanent mining camp in Colorado In 1859 a plenty of gold was found here.
Once 1.500 miners populated the area. In the Miners Hotel (1872) you'll find still many pieces of original furniture.
The town is still inhabited and has a great General Store which invites for a stop: you'll get meals, coffee and very good homemade cake.

Once, this town was one of the richest in the state. One mine produced over 2 Mio. ounces of silver.
