Metro Goldwyn Mayer (MGM) put the small town on the movie-making map-using
local residents as extra, wranglers and caterers in more than 100 films, many
of them classic westerns. Visitors can still see some of the old movie sets in
Kanab and enjoy the town’s down-home cowboy cookin’.
The area has it’s own walk of fame featuring wild west celebrities such as
actors Ronald Reagan, Tom Mix and Ben Johnson, as well as producer Howard W. Koch.
Kanab hosts it’s annual Western Legends Celebration in early September.
Cowboy music and poetry, daily stage shows, native American and country-and
western dancing all put the spotlight on Kanab’s heritage.
Kanab is located about 3 miles north of the border to Arizona; Kanab lies approx. 70 miles west of Page, AZ, off the U.S. 89.
Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park is approx. 17 miles away (eastern direction). Kanab is an ideal stop on your way from Bryce Canyon to Grand Canyon or vice versa. Bryce Canyon is located north of Kanab (ca. 70 miles); to Grand Canyon the distance is approx. 190 miles.
